I feel like complaining about Merlin, but I'm lazy. What are your thoughts on Merlin? I think it's really fucking stupid but I watch it whenever I have nothing better to do on a Saturday even though it makes me want to throw every single character in it out of a window.

I don't think that it's sooo bad but I definitely watch it just for fun. I try to ignore all the historically/legend incorrect things - I've just finished a book about Merlin and whenever they use something from the book but totally in a different way, I suffer for a while. I take the legend etc. part of it as a lousy excuse for a fantasy series, only enjoying the series itself because it's actually fun. But those trollish (yes, note the troll D:) episodes are killing me.

Oh, I have absolutely no problem at all with the anachronism and stuff. I actually enjoy that stuff. 8D

What bothers me is how, like ... all of the good guys spend all their time going out of their way to ensure that Uther remains king even though the series is constantly telling us what an asshole he is for committing genocide and how much it sucks that he is king. It's totally unsatisfactory plot-wise because you know he's not going to be deposed, like, EVER, and you're constantly rooting for someone to do something about it, but anyone who does want to do something about it is painted as a two-dimensional malevolent villain? Like, even ones who've been major characters up until they decided that Uther needed to go. I AM LOOKING AT YOU, MORGANA. She has legitimate reasons for wanting to get rid of Uther, but now that she's decided that's what she's in favour of she's just portrayed as smirky and evil.

tl;dr I find it increasingly difficult to tolerate the way that they spend half their time telling us what a DEEPLY UNPLEASANT MAN Uther is and what TERRIBLE THINGS he has done but the rest of the time acting like the only reason anybody would have for wanting him gone is BEING EVIL

Yeah, I feel you.
It's probably my personal feeling but I don't really see Uther as a bad character - everybody keeps telling us what terrible things he's done but I've never actually seen him being completely EVIL.
Um, Morgana. I don't know. Sure, the villains are very flat and I really have to agree with everything you've said. But on the other hand - I personally never quite liked any of the female characters in this show :P But yeah, you're definitely right.
